Kindergarten Curriculum
Language Arts
The child will…..
•Identify letters Identify letter sounds
•Form upper and lowercase letters from memory
•Blend sounds to make words
•Hear and recognize short vowel sounds
•Recognize vowel patterns
•Know concepts of setting and characterization
•Be familiar with the terms: author, illustrator, and title page
•Be able to put story events into proper sequence
•Recognize given sight words
•Be able to write his/her first and last name
•Be able to write a simple sentence
Math
At the elementary level, math topics are introduced, developed and applied throughout each grade level. The aim is to provide a balance between computational skills, conceptual understanding and problem solving, while developing mathematical reasoning and critical thinking skills in order to provide a solid foundation for further education.
Through the use of manipulatives, students will develop an understanding of small numbers, quantities and simple shapes in relation to their environment. Students will investigate money, the concept of time and measurement. Counting and comparing of small numbers will be introduced, identified and developed. Students will organize and collect data using picture graphs.
Social Studies
