CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

Many clubs and activities are offered to the students at The Atlanta Academy.  Highlighted below are a few examples of our most popular clubs and activities.

Academic Competitions

Each year our 4th - 8th grade students compete in an oratorical contest, spelling bee and geography bee. Competitions take place within the grade level as well as between grade levels.

Art Club

An extension of our art program, the Art Club meets throughout the year to create student favorites such as glass fusion and clay.  Middle School students are given the opportunity to practice their photography skills for one quarter of the school year.

Chess Club

Students meet once a week to practice, play and learn the game of chess in a relaxed and fun environment.

Chorus

The Atlanta Academy Chorus is comprised of our Kindergarten through third grade student.  Our Chorus performs throughout the school year in many of the schools productions and festivities.

Dance

Our precious girls twirl, spin and dance away as they learn ballet, jazz and tap.  Routines are showcased in recitals performed during the school year.

Debate Team

Debate participants are learning methods of researching topics, how to organize and compose their material, teamwork, public speaking and critical thinking skills, plus how to examine facts on both sides of an issue.  All of these skills are beneficial not only for the Middle School, but also in high school, college, the workplace, and throughout everyday life.  Our goal is to have our members gain confidence, learn about a variety of timely topics, and become more confident as public speakers.  The Atlanta Academy was the North Atlanta Debate League Champion for 2005-2006, 2006-2007, and 2007-2008 school year. This past year (2008-2009), The Atlanta Academy was the Co-Champions in 2008-2009.

Lego/Robotics

LEGO Education (LE) combines the motivational advantages of LEGO education sets with award-winning software and standards-based activity packs that integrate math, science, and technology into engaging hands-on classroom projects.

National Junior Honor Society

Atlanta Academy’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is open to 7th and 8th grade students.  Students are inducted into NJHS in the spring of the school year. Students are selected to this society must show excellence in academics, leadership, service, character and citizenship.

Spring Musical

Atlanta Academy students are encouraged to take part in our annual Spring Musical. Held in the Spring, our yearly musical is a treat for our community.  Beauty and the Beast, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Aladdin, and Bugsy Malone were all musicals performed by our students in the recent years.  This year’s play is Seussical the Musical.

Stock Market Club

The Georgia Council on Economic Education’s Stock Market Game (SMG) gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an on-line portfolio.  The SMG is played by Middle School students interested in the financial markets.

Student Council

5th through 8th graders are elected each year to serve on Student Council in four positions: Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President.
